It is difficult to assume that the removal of the repeat sign for b. 79-95 was not consulted with Chopin. However, the issue is generally obscure, since A is the only source in which the repeat sign was marked – it is absent both in AsI and in the orchestral material GEorch (→FEorch). In the main text we give the compliant version of all sources of the version for 1 piano. The alternative, variant proposal with a trilled f1 quaver is based on the sources of the orchestral part – Violin I in AsI and the respective voice in GEorch (→FEorch). The version of AsI, in which it is also the second part of this variation that was repeated, b. 112-127 (in b. 112 the repeat sign is marked only with an additional double bar line; its meaning becomes clear in b. 127, with two volte), was initially also in A, which can be determined on the basis of the visible corrections – to the right of the double bar line following b. 111, one can see traces of erasure of 4 dots, which, together with that line, constituted a repeat sign. In AsI, there are 2 versions of this bar – the 1st volta, slightly different from the 2nd volta of b. 111, with a repeat sign at the end, and the 2nd volta, generally compliant with the final text. In AsI b. 152-167 are then repeated, in spite of the absence of repeat signs. It is a result of two versions of b. 166-167, marked as 1. volta and 2. volta. Repetition (carefully marked) was originally also written in A, in which, however, Chopin removed the repeat sign at the beginning of b. 152 (by erasing double dots, as a result of which a double bar line was left) and crossed out 1. volta of b. 166-167.
